How points are counted

El sistema es el estándar del fútbol chileno: 3 puntos por victoria, 1 por empate y 0 por derrota. La tabla ordena a los equipos de mayor a menor puntaje. Como todos juegan la misma cantidad de fechas a lo largo del año, el total de puntos al final del torneo define quién sube, quién se queda y quién baja de categoría.

The system is the Chilean football standard: 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The table ranks teams from most to fewest points. Since everyone plays the same number of matchdays across the year, the points total at the end of the tournament decides who goes up, who stays and who drops down a division.

Cuando dos o más equipos quedan igualados en puntos, el reglamento de la ANFP aplica una serie de criterios de desempate en orden. El primero suele ser la diferencia de gol (goles a favor menos goles en contra); si persiste la igualdad, se miran los goles a favor y otros parámetros. En instancias definitorias —como definir un campeón o un cupo de liguilla— puede jugarse incluso un partido de desempate. Por eso no basta con mirar los puntos: la diferencia de gol puede cambiar toda la clasificación.

When two or more teams are level on points, the ANFP rulebook applies a series of tie-breakers in order. The first is usually goal difference (goals for minus goals against); if the tie holds, goals scored and other measures are checked. In decisive cases —settling a champion or a play-off spot— a tie-break match may even be played. That's why points alone aren't enough: goal difference can reshuffle the whole standing.

Las tablas de la Primera B usan las siglas habituales del fútbol chileno. Saber qué significa cada columna ayuda a entender por qué un equipo está donde está, más allá del puntaje total. Estas son las que verás en cualquier tabla oficial o de prensa:

Primera B tables use the usual Chilean football abbreviations. Knowing what each column means helps you understand why a team sits where it does, beyond the raw points total. These are the ones you'll see in any official or press table:

Un ejemplo para verlo claro: si dos equipos llegan a 40 puntos, pero uno tiene DIF +12 y el otro +5, el de mejor diferencia queda arriba. Si ambos tuvieran la misma diferencia, se comparan los goles a favor y, si sigue el empate, los demás criterios del reglamento. Por eso un gol de más o de menos al final de un partido puede valer una posición entera en la tabla.

A quick example: if two teams reach 40 points but one has a goal difference of +12 and the other +5, the one with the better difference finishes above. If both had the same difference, goals scored are compared and, if still level, the rulebook's remaining criteria. That's why a single extra or conceded goal at the end of a match can be worth a whole place in the table.

Al final de la temporada, el equipo que termina primero en la Primera B asciende directamente a la Primera División. El segundo ascenso se juega en una liguilla de promoción entre los equipos mejor ubicados de la tabla, con partidos de eliminación que definen al segundo equipo que sube. Por abajo, los últimos lugares descienden a la Segunda División Profesional. El número exacto de cupos y el formato de la liguilla pueden ajustarse por temporada, por lo que conviene verificarlos con la ANFP antes de dar nada por seguro.

At the end of the season, the team that finishes top of Primera B is promoted directly to the Primera División. The second promotion is decided in a play-off (liguilla) among the best-placed clubs, with knockout ties that settle the second team to go up. At the bottom, the last places are relegated to the Segunda División Profesional. The exact number of spots and the play-off format can be adjusted season to season, so it's worth confirming with the ANFP before taking anything as fixed.

Para Deportes Temuco, un buen año es pelear arriba: terminar en zona de ascenso directo o de liguilla, es decir, entre los primeros lugares de la tabla.
