Temuco tiene un clima oceánico templado (clasificación Cfb de Köppen): veranos suaves y secos, e inviernos fríos, húmedos y muy lluviosos. La lluvia es la protagonista del año —más de 1.100 mm— y explica por qué La Araucanía es tan verde. Ninguna estación es extrema: rara vez hace un calor agobiante y las nevadas en la ciudad son ocasionales, pero la humedad y los días grises marcan buena parte del calendario.

Temuco has a temperate oceanic climate (Köppen Cfb): mild, dry summers and cold, damp, very wet winters. Rain is the year's headline —over 1,100 mm— and explains why Araucanía is so green. No season is extreme: it is rarely oppressively hot and snow in the city is occasional, but humidity and grey skies define much of the calendar.

El verano (diciembre a febrero) es la mejor época: máximas de 22–24 °C, tardes largas y luminosas hasta cerca de las 21:30, y poca lluvia. Es cuando la ciudad se llena para salir a Villarrica, Pucón o Conguillío. El otoño (marzo a mayo) es dorado y fotogénico —los álamos y hualles cambian de color— pero también es cuando la lluvia empieza a instalarse: marzo aún es amable, mayo ya es plenamente invernal.

Summer (December to February) is the best time: highs of 22–24 °C, long bright evenings until nearly 21:30, and little rain. This is when the city empties towards Villarrica, Pucón or Conguillío. Autumn (March to May) is golden and photogenic —the poplars and southern beeches turn colour— but it is also when the rain settles in: March is still mild, by May it is fully wintry.

Winter (June to August) is cold, dark and very wet: lows around 4–5 °C, morning frosts, and whole days of steady rain. It snows little in the city, though nearby peaks turn white. En verano basta con ropa ligera para el día y una capa de abrigo para la noche, más protector solar: aunque no haga mucho calor, la radiación del sur puede quemar. En otoño e invierno la clave es vestirse por capas e impermeabilizarse: chaqueta cortaviento con membrana impermeable, calzado con buen agarre para las veredas mojadas, y ropa que seque rápido. In summer, light daytime clothes plus one warm layer for the evening and sunscreen are enough: even when it is not hot, southern sun can burn. In autumn and winter the key is layering and waterproofing: a windproof, waterproof-membrane jacket, shoes with good grip for wet pavements, and quick-drying clothes. When to go? For sightseeing, nature and trips to the lakes and volcanoes, December to March is ideal for its settled weather and long days. Those after autumn colour and fewer people will find their moment in April. Winter has its charm —steaming hot springs, snowy peaks nearby— but demands planning around the rain. Relative humidity is high for much of the year, morning frosts are common in winter and early spring, and wind is usually moderate, most noticeable as fronts pass through.
